We got a package in a large box, and our immediate desire was to convert it into a house for our 16 month old. We cut out windows and a crawl level door, but she got interested only after we cut out full height door for her to walk in. Since then she spends a lot of time interacting with this house, and I’m sharing some ideas how we are playing.
1.Peekaboo.
This is the obvious play idea since there are windows on each side. I crawl around the house and tickle her from each opening. She giggles and loves this playtime. We turn the house upside down for this one so roof is open and i can reach her from the top as well.
2.Paint.
We did some finger painting on the house, but it can be painted with a brush. Older toddlers can probably make it really cute.
3.Draw inside and outside the house.
We did some drawing with markers sitting inside the house and standing outside.
4.Make it a house for animals.
This one seems to be the favorite activity of our toddler. She loves to bring stuffed animals to the house and then to take them out of there.
5.Stickers.
A house can be decorated with stickers. Some toddlers love to stick stickers on something and this house looks even better with bright stickers on it.
6.Home theater.
We have images of animals that i printed out and taped on a stick for our shoebox theater. They work even better with this house. I stick them out of the window, and our toddler seems to be trying to do the same, it’s really cute to watch her 🙂
