Our 10 favorite books (12-24 months old)

The Tickle Book

Who doesn’t like tickles? This book has flaps that reveal a tickle monster hiding underneath. It’s got great illustrations by Axel Scheffler and it’s so fun to read! Scarlett loves the tickles this book brings.

The Gruffalo

This is Scarlett’s most favorite book. I’m not sure if she loves it so much because she saw the Gruffalo movie on Netflix, or because she loves monsters so much. The book has beautiful illustrations by Axel Scheffler as well, and fun story that rhymes. It’s definitely a must-have.

Baby Tiger: Finger Puppet Book

Scarlett picked this book herself at a bookstore. It’s a cute little book that has a tiger finger puppet that stays on every page of the book. She’s fascinated that the tiger moves around when we read this book. It’s a cute concept to combine a book and a puppet. There are plenty of other animals and stories in the series.

I Say, You Say Opposites Book

I love the bright colors and large illustrations in this book. It has full-page sized flaps opening in different directions. This book is about opposites. For example, the first page has a small fish and a giant whale – and Scarlett likes to show biiiig whale with her hands, one of the other pages has a turtle walking slow, and a fox running fast – we also do slow walking  and fast running with our fingers.

Room on the Broom

This is another book by Julia Donaldson who wrote the Gruffalo book. All her book are just so great! It also has a cute story that rhymes, and a great collection of animals – a cat, a dog, a bird, and a frog illustrated by Axel Scheffler as well, I’m a big fan!

This book is interactive because it has holes in the place of the owl eyes. We play with those holes all the time. Scarlett likes to stick her fingers there and I catch them on the other side. It’s also a good book to learn colors and numbers for later, when she grows up a bit.

Happy Little Rabbit

This is a very cute little book. This is one of the books that Scarlett likes to “read” herself – after we start reading this book to her, she just takes the book and continues the story in her own language, it’s just the cutest thing. The illustrations are very beautiful and unique.

Llama Llama Misses Mama

I’ve heard a lot about Llama Llama book series and we finally got this one: Llama llama misses mama. I must say these books are worth the attention they are getting, well, at least this one that we had a chance to read. This story is about a llama that started going to daycare/school and missed her mama a lot in the beginning, but ended up having fun there. The rhymes and story are beautiful and very useful for kids getting ready for daycare.

I Love My Daddy Because…

This book is for Dads to read 🙂 It lists the reasons why dad is so great – because he likes to play, because he is big and strong, and likes to take naps together. It’s a good book to get dads involved into reading to a child and to make dads feel good.

Scarlett is just crazy about this song. The windows of our living room are facing the road, and every time Scarlett sees a bus, she starts making movements from this song. But probably all kids love this song, and I think it’s great to have any version of The Wheels on The Bus book, there are so many of them. Scarlett would bring this book to me over and over again, I wonder how she doesn’t get tired of it.

We got a lot of Dr Seuss books and this is Scarlett’s favorite. I guess she likes to hear us twist the tongue or perhaps she likes the rhymes it makes. This is a book that she likes to “read” loud herself as well.
